Most of Liam Halpin’s works to date have been abstract paintings in oils. He has tried to create paintings that are spontaneous and immediate, allowing the paint to make its own decisions as it goes. If they have a subject these are paintings about paint.

He has recently begun experimenting with the still life; he sees this as one of painting’s oldest and simplest yet underrated disciplines.
The idea behind these works is that the best still life’s show the every day, commonplace objects and scenes around us as they really are – filled with warmth and energy.
The beauty of the mundane.
The still life is also interesting from an artists point of view as they are absolutely everywhere. You can sketch all day and still not capture them all.

Liam's work will be on display at Cafe 547 for the month of July
