"...his concerts are like a nice, iced chai latte: smooth, cool, but with plenty of spice." Entertain Me, Cheri Harris, Chronicle

"A powerhouse of eclectic guitar styles and genres, Gilewitz wears his influences well." 20th Century Guitar Magazine

As one of "Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine's" Men of Steel, Richard Gilewitz shines a little brighter with each passing year, capturing the fingerprints of the past and present guitar. This ever-entertaining performer is an uncommon fingerstyle guitar soloist, composer, and master teacher who forges a new direction to include the expanse of his influences. As he combines both standard and unique tunings in his originals, every single note is treated as an individual character in a society of notes. Touring worldwide from New Zealand to the British Isles and points in between, Richard brings his colorful imagery to his audiences with a musical style that ranges from classical, folk, blues and the traditional, as well as offering his complex and energetic original pieces. He has shared the stage with such noted artists as Richard Thompson, Rory Block, Steve Morse, Norman Blake, Kenny G, Leo Kottke, John Renbourn, and John Hammond. As he achieves a very distinctive sound with a voice of its own, it is apparent that Richard’s own DNA is always reflected in his playing. Performing with his 6 and 12 string guitars, Richard follows a distinct cadence with his quick wit and quirky tales from the road.
