Meandering, Multimedia from Matt Palmer

In “Meandering” Matt has created a series of landscapes that make a direct connection to his feelings about his past and his home. Their ghost-like appearance and painterly image intrigues and invites us to reminisce about the places we’ve been to before.

This exhibition combines printmaking, photography and painting to create a series of visual metaphors that set out to be both haunting and evocative. They set out to externalise, to paint a picture of the hidden, the way we feel deep down about New Zealand’s dark and mysterious landscape. Matt Palmer say’s “I’m a person who is expatriated from his birth place. My need to go home and explore the landscape, visit the places I have been to before or have always imagined going to in the past has become overwhelming”. By playing with the line between memory and reality Palmer has creating images of his home that express what he feels about the place he grew up in, the place he belongs too and can never leave completely.
