THE EDGE® International Arts Season presents
From Paris, France
A GALA SEASON with the Leading Dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet
Make sure you guarantee your seat for an extraordinary event that features Les Étoiles and Les Vedettes (stars) of the Paris Opera Ballet, performing in Auckland for three exceptional nights.
“…style, elegance, fluency, speed, lightness and attack. The proud carriage of shoulders and beautifully supple backs are a mark of European dance that we don’t see here. Nor do we see the attention to detail that builds a performance from good to bravura...” SYDNEY MORNING HERALD
The programme for this remarkable performance will highlight the extensive repertoire of the Paris Opera Ballet – from the great 19th century classics to the contemporary masterpieces. This breathtaking ballet performance will showcase the exceptional talents of the dancers; the men excelling in jumps and petite batterie, and the women defying the laws of gravity with their extensions.
The Paris Opera Ballet can be traced back to 1661, when it was created by the renowned patron of the arts, King Louis XIV, and it is the birthplace of today’s classical ballet. From 1981 to 1993, the great Russian dancer and choreographer Rudolf Nureyev took over the artistic direction of the Paris Opera Ballet and brought the company to the rank of the best in the world as well as continuing to build the company’s extensive repertoire. Today, the Paris Opera Ballet has mastered a range of styles from baroque
to modern, from neoclassical to experimental.
The Leading Dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet will perform a mixed programme of work by the world’s most revered choreographers including Rudolf Nureyev, William Forsythe and Petipa.
