Full of spectacular jumps, thrills and spills with boats reaching 80kph in the surf, the Surfcross teams battle it out over several laps in as little as 300mm of water.
The finish is just as dramatic as boats skid up onto the beach.
Depending on the sea swell on Sunday, teams will cross the Cook Strait and return.
