A not to be missed opportunity to view work by internationally recognised New Zealand photographer, Laurence Aberhart.
Russell Museum is privileged to host the first New Zealand showing of Laurence Aberhart's photographic collection of Maori churches of Northland. Laurence began this body of work in 1982. Sadly, some churches no longer exist. His photographs of small family and community churches "neither fully of one culture nor the other" evidence the profound influence of "Missionary Christianity" on Maori. It is a powerful body of work with each photograph offering a space in which to pause quietly and contemplate.
The exhibition runs till March 7th 2009 in the Marie King Gallery of Russell Museum.
Enquiries phone (09) 403 7701 or curator@russellmuseum.org.nz
Adults: $7.50, accompanied children: free.
