Prepare for a night of hypnotic krautrock style, vintage analogue synths, surrealist 60s pop, and mind ducking awesomeness because . . .

Mystery Girl is pleased to announce two New Zealand shows by Stereolab . . .

Over the course of eleven albums Stereolab have refined their own distinctive sound via metronomic drums, loops, bleeps, retro keys and of course the distinctive French vocals of Laetitia Sadier. This is a sound that has found resonance for the UK band around the world - including New Zealand. In fact, they have played a couple of very memorable shows here and even had releases on Flying Nun.

For their latest album, Chemical Chords, Stereolab found a new lease of life and signed to legendary independent 4AD. For the album they wrote a batch of what founding member Tim Gane described as “purposely short, dense, fast pop songs”. Hailed as their best in years, Filter Magazine gave the album 86/100 and wrote “Chemical Chords is yet another kaleidoscope that hits you as ear candy upon first listen, but like most Stereolab records, further inspection reveal a playground for the mind” Others, including Drowned in Sound, Pitchfork and the All Music Guide have all equally given it the thumbs up.

So don’t miss . . . Stereolab

My stick whizz is amazing. It moulees mush for the toddler, creams the butter and sugar for wicked chocolate brownie (if I had to cream by hand I would flag the whole thing), blends apple for the roast pork to keep the boys happy, and most importantly it froths the milk for my flat white each morning - bless the stick whizz!!

i know a lot of people can't live without there cell phones but for me it's not the end of the world but I do get withdrawal symptoms if I don't surf the net. luckily for my employee I wait until I am at home, because it certainly eats the time

My digital watch - so simple but I feel lost without it. The strap broke a week ago and I haven't got a new one yet. Because it's still holidays I'm trying to relax and not worry about time, go with the flow etc. I hear (from the radio) and see (other clocks, the computer, cellphone etc) the time as often as I need but there's nothing quite as reassuring as seeing it on my wrist. Worst of all - seeing that white stripe of wrist where my watch is supposed to be!

I can't live without my Roland MC-505 'Groovebox', a 90's sound module. I'm always using it at band practices to introduce less traditional sounds to the keyboard. At home I play back compositions I've created in midi format and edit the timbre of each of the parts separately. I also make old-school dance patterns or supplement my other recordings with original synthesizer patches and drum machine beats. It has an infrared controller which can be used in various ways such as a theremin or a turntable (great for live performances!). My favourite band Radiohead has an MC-505 too!

If I had to choose only 1 thing it would be my Nokia N95 for sure, it plays music, movies, games, controls my home entertainment system (not much use if I haven't get access to it), connects into my Wifi (same), stores files, takes video and photos, uses GPS to guide me home when I'm lost or drunk, wakes me up in the morning and I can even make calls on it or send texts on it........when I'm not prodding fun at Iphone users about their "form over function phones" of course :)
