Drugs, plants, and animals the smugglers didn't want you to see
International Customs Day will be celebrated in Auckland at the New Zealand National Maritime Museum. This year’s theme is Customs and the environment: Protecting our natural heritage.
An interesting, lively and educational day of activity for the whole family, including:
- Auckland Police’s $2.8 million, state-of-the art launch, Deodar III
- New Zealand Customs’ patrol vessel Hawk and a rigid inflatable boat used by the Department of Conservation
- Detector dog demonstrations
- Exhibits showing actual drug smugglers and the methods they use to try and beat border security
- A special focus on the environment featuring examples of unusual plants and animals that smugglers attempt to trade illegally.
Entry is included in the museum admission price.
For this year’s event, the New Zealand National Maritime Museum is offering a special entry price – adult Auckland residents $12 per person and up to two children get free entry when accompanied by a full paying adult. Also the Museum’s steam powered tug, Puke, will be steaming round the Viaduct Harbour every 20 minutes, from 11.00am-3.30pm.
