Congratulations to our BIG winner 'A M' who chose Daft Punk to headline his fantasy Big Day Out.

Thanks to everyone else who entered, there was some stiff competition for this prize!

Have a great time at the show!

The Ultimate 2010 BDO (if anything was possible...)
Queen( this needs no explaining! Old, young, male, female, it doesn't matter who you are - there's a Queen song you LOVE and know all the words to!), Muse (apparently the best 'new' live band in the world and they opened the new Wembley Stadium so someone knows how talented they are!), The Beatles (or even just Paul McCartney - saw him at Glastonbury singing Hey Jude as a finale....beautiful and over 80,000 still humming this tune the next day!), Jimi Hendrix (such talented musicians are few and far between), UB40 and Bob Marley and the Wailers (at Ragamuffin 2008 these sets almost brought tears to my eyes - nothing like thousands of voices and swaying lighters all in time!)

Homegrown - there is now so much talent but the pick of the crop for me are -
Fat Freddy's Drop, Black Seeds, Shapeshifter, Kora, Katchafire and of course, for some real entertainment and put everyone in a fantastic mood.... Flight of the Conchords!

So how BIG are we thinking?

If dreams were free it would have to be JIMI HENDRIX, he showed the world how outdoor music fests are supposed to be done with his performance at Woodstock and would totally rock the crowd at Big Day Out!

…however if we’re looking for musicians that are alive and breathing with the rest of us, you can’t go past the remaining lineup of LED ZEPELLIN. They proved that they can still work their magic at the O2 Arena in 2007, and it would be amazing to see them at BDO.

…and then there are MUSE. Their sound is massive, and just resonated through the stadium at BDO 2007. They are unbelievably good live and much deserving of the headline spot.

…and of course we can’t forget to fly the home flag. SHIHAD rock and the Big Day Out just doesn’t feel like the Big Day Out without them. They’ve proved their worth time and time again. Bring them back for 2010 and give them a later time slot.

If I were in charge, I would ask The Beatles to headline BDO 2010. You said think big!!

The Beatles embody the music festival spirit like nobody else before or since has. They brought together different groups from society and united them in a musical revolution. I think people have forgotten what music is about, but the Beatles, and the Big Day Out, would be a reminder of the unity that we can achieve through music as a community.

If I were in charge, I definitely pick DAVID BOWIE as the main headliner.

David Bowie has been forefront on the music scene for over 5 decades of rock. He is a household name and is famous for being an innovator, creative and a music legend.

What makes Bowie so amazing is that his music can be enjoyed by anyone and everyone. Over the years, he has experimented with a variety of musical styles from Glam Rock to RnB. I know for a fact that Bowie is an inspiration to many musicians because he explores the boundaries of music and isn't afraid to be different.

BDO is all about a musical community. Uniting people of all ages through the amazing thing that is music. Bowie encompasses this!

If I were in charge and I was being realistic I would have...

Tiki Taane, The Prodigy, Rob Zombie, Marylin Manson, Pendulum, Daft Punk, Orbital, 30 Seconds To Mars, Blindspott, The Kings of Leon, Tool, System of the Down, The Black Seeds, Kora, Shapeshifter, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Veronicas, Faithless, MUSE.

    Pearl Jam
Pearl Jam should head the BDO. Live, they rock crowds of multigenerational fans and quickly convert the sceptics. Elements of all musical influences are laced through their work and they do not fail to deliver on the large stage. Significantly, Vedder incorporates the entire crowd into live performances if the urge is there. These are generous performers who epitomise alternative rock and continue to deliver whether to 150 or 150000
I have seen, within the last 5 years, many of the older rockers and, (the Rolling Stones aside, for pure professionalism), many now lack the volume and the velocity required to drive home sounds above and into the crowd. This is despite the pleasure of still seeing these masters such as Dylan.
The prime band or performer should not leave me still wanting to rock. Pearl Jam may actually consider a return visit to NZ as well!

It's pretty hard to top Neil Young, but what about Kings of Leon.

BRING BACK THE FOOS. The Foo Fighters would blow the top off BDO 2010. If only we could bring back the dead, as my absolute top pick would be PINK FLOYD, or even just David Gilmour or Roger Waters. Chuck in a bit of MUSE, Hey why not even COLDPLAY, and for a trip down memory lane I bet The Police would be stoked to be back in NZ. But to finish off my night in the Boiler Room would have to be NZ's own Epic 5 piece, SHAPESHIFTER. Ohh the memories from BDO 2007 are flooding back.

Hey for Metal with sheer and utter indifference to PC societal rules, I could really go for Marilyn Manson he does rock and is quite shit hot...but he is also emotionally redundant and mentally twisted....a freak

I loved Blink182, I think it would be great to get them back, but my ultimate choice has to be the Grandpappa rockers from Texas 40 years and still goin strong ...ZZ Top cause they rock. In my face 2010 thats where I want them to be...

Hits like, Gimme all your lovin, legs, tush are endless classics....but I guess headliner acts are upcoming artists, and believe me these guys are that too, cant wait to get a hold of the new compilations with The Black Keys writing new songs in collaboration with Billy F. Gibbons...go guys

Ok, so I've read through all of these messages and have to say that some people are being so harsh about the line up! Are you lot crazy!? The line-up this year is bloody fantastic and meets so many different peoples tastes!! How we managed to get this line-up is a mystery to me but hell, I certainly ain't complaining!

As for me line-up would include:
KOL, Yelle, MGMT, Incubus, Pendulum, Andy C, Red Hot Chillis, The Strokes, The Killers, Lucid3, Benga, Shihad, Shapeshifter and well whatever the other organisers come up with because they pretty much already know how to get some amazing bands here to little 'ole NZ.
    AHHHHHH can't wait!!
