Meech and Co

MEECH & CO. was formed approximately two and a half years ago with the intention of rehearsing once a week to build a repertoire of Dixieland and Mainstream tunes mainly for the benefit of the members who had little opportunity to play this sort of music in their normal musical environment.

Tony Baylis has added to the mix by composing some very catchy numbers for the band, so we now have a nice assortment of blues, stomps, ballads, rags and original songs to present.

Lindsay Meech – Leader (cornet, flugelhorn, vocals) - born Wellington. Lived and played in Australia and UK from 1967-1972. Played in New Orleans 1971, sitting in. Settled in Auckland 1972. Founding member of Vintage Jazz Band. Played concerts with Art Hodes and Sammy Price in Auckland and Wild Bill Davison in Sacramento where the VJB played in 87,88 and 92. Has toured Europe and UK extensively on seven tours with The Spirit Of New Orleans (Sydney) and The Louisiana Shakers (Melb.) Plays annually with the Dixie Heroes in Melbourne.

Also featured will be: Pat Reinhardt (guitar), Tony Baylis (bass), Gordon Marr (drums), Bob Ward (trombone) and Michel Salomon (clarinet/tenor saxophone).
