A new theatre production in February 2009 brings together a multicultural team of playwrights, directors and actors to tackle the cultural divide in Auckland, giving local audiences an insight into Asian life, culture and perspective.

Following a successful Double Shot season at THE EDGE® involving workshop presentations of works-in-progress, The Oryza Foundation for Asian Performing Arts (The Oryza Foundation™) will formally premiere the full season of Asian Tales™: Native Alienz from 12th February 2009.

Asian Tales™: Native Alienz provides seven new, thoughtful and contemporary insights into Asian life, culture and perspectives both in New Zealand including an introduction to Rakugo, a traditional form of Japanese performance comedy.

Featuring a talented cast of Asian, Maori, Pacific Island and Pakeha actors, the seven new short-format theatre works, written by both new and emerging playwrights from New Zealand and overseas, will be directed by a multicultural team of directors helmed by Artistic Director Tony Forster.
