The trio got together in high school after playing in various other school groups. They held a 2 year residency at the Mecca Stonehouse in Mission Bay from 2005-07, and have had a regular Friday night gig at The London Bar since mid 2007, more recently as a quintet with Roger Manins and Pete Barwick.
Steven started playing jazz piano at age 11, and was soon performing regularly with high school groups while also working professionally with the trio. He has recieved the Most Outstanding Musican, Best Pianist, Best Keyboardist and Best Composition awards from the Tauranga Jazz Festival Youth Competition, and has received the Band of The Festival award for two different groups in the last two years. He is moving to Sydney in March to continue tertiary study at the Conservatorium of Music. His ultimate goal is to move to New York and eventually tour internatioanlly with his own band performing original music.
Drawing influence from pianists Oscar Peterson, Keith Jarrett, Bud Powell, Lennie Tristano, Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock and Brad Mehldau and their groups, the band's repertoire encompasses much of the history of jazz, from standards to original compositions and everything in between.
