Alt-country Singer/Songwriter extraordinaire. Member of the Hobnail Boots and The Shot Band riding solo.
Rob Joass moved to New Zealand from his native Sydney in 1991. Since that time he has become one of the hardest working musicians in the capital. A professional musician for over 20 years, Rob has travelled far and wide, performing at cafés, folk clubs, bars and festivals all over the world.
Rob has been writing songs for as long as he has been playing guitar (about 30 years), and contributes the bulk of original material for both of his bands, the Hobnail Boots and The Shot Band.
His songwriting has been compared with the likes of John Hiatt, Paul Kelly, and Ry Cooder. His song 145 MPH from was awarded Best Country Song at the first (and last…) Wellington Songwriting Awards, and “Dead In The Water”, from The Shot Band CD was a finalist in 2006 for APRA Country Song of the Year.
Rob has made numerous television appearances and was also featured on National Radio’s Musical Chairs programme. He has also had songs covered by bands in New Zealand, Australia, and Canada.
