In the genre of the Waiheke Community Art Gallery's previous stunning Christmas exhibitions, we have created for 2009 a wonderful group show titled "Messing About In Boats".

This exhibition includes a wide range of work from paintings to sculpture and installation. Wonderful old photos from the collection of the Maritime Museum look back at the old ferries that plied their trade between Auckland and Waiheke. Captain James Cook's early map making and cartography are wonderfully depicted as paintings on dinghy strakes by Auckland artist Clyde Scott, while old oars retrieved from a seaside cottage have magically been transformed by local Waiheke artists.

The exhibition also includes an installation of old bathing suits, by Rose McLeod who has been resident in the gallery's studio for the past few months. Hannah Kidds fabulous sculpture "Happy Camper" is a feature of the exhibtion, also 'Kith and Kin' a sculpture in wood by Tanya Blong. Paintings complementing the exhibition are by Jane Zusters, Jennifer Town, Nikki Apse and Matthew Muir. Other sculptural works are by Stephen Mulqueen, Phil Newbury, nigel Scanlon, Leigh Brogan, Penny Ericson and John Oxborough.
