Description: Stuart Shepherd is originally from the Waikato, and after many years he has recently relocated to Raglan. Shepherd is visual artist who has trained in established art traditions, but he has his own ideas about how those traditions might be adapted to contemporary realities. (His last work shown in the Waikato featured a giant butter sculpture). In line with his interest in traditional art practice Stuart will be running a life drawing class at the old school (beginning Oct 29.) His work in the art world includes exhibition curation and teaching. Earlier this year Shepherd hosted a booth featuring New Zealand artists at the 2009 Outsider art Fair in N.Y.)

For this exhibition at the Old School Arts Centre Shepherd is planning to compile a mixed selection of his own work from the past, amongst work by some of the artists from the N.Y. show.
The mixed selection is intended to complement the occasion of the old school house market day which happens on the 13th of Dec. His exhibition hopes to question the traditional expectations of "high" and "low" art. At the time of writing Stuart is working on a new sculptural piece specifically for the exhibition.
