The 43rd National Concerto Competition for musicians under 25 has attracted a record 51 entries from around New Zealand. These include violins, flutes oboe, horn euphonium and more.
The preliminaries and semi-finals will be held at the Maurice Till Concert Hall (formerly the Heritage Chapel of the Music Centre), Barbadoes Street Christchurch from December 9-11th.
The adjudicators are Vesa-Matti Leppanen, Concert Master with the NZSO, Bridget Douglas, Principal Flute with the NZSO, and Charmian Gadd ,one of Australia's most eminent string tutors.
The 51 contestants will perform in six sessions from 2- 5.30pm and 6.30- 10.00pm Wednesday 9th December.
9.00am -12.30 , 1.30-5pm ,6.30-10pm Thursday 10th of December,
9.00am-12.00 Friday 11th December.
Entry is $5 per session.
The number will be whittled down to six for the Semi Finals 7pm On December 11th . Entry $10.
Three will be selected to perform with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra at a showcase Final Concert on Saturday March 13th 2010 in the Douglas Lilburn Auditorium of the Christchurch Town Hall.
