Former Music Director of The Tudor Consort Alastair Carey returns to Wellington for a concert with fellow Christ Church Oxford Lay Clerks Hugo Janacek and Gregory Skidmore. The trio will perform Byrd’s Mass for Three Voices, in addition to motets and solo pieces by Sheppard, Purcell and Dowland. Pepe Becker (soprano), Douglas Mews (organ) and Robert Oliver (basso continuo) join them in the second half for baroque verse anthems, including Purcell’s Rejoice in the Lord Alway.

Alastair Carey describes the concert’s repertoire as “highlighting the virtuosity of the voices while at the same time showcasing key three-voice English repertoire, some of which likely hasn’t been heard before in New Zealand”.

Apart from singing together at Christ Church (the chapel of Christ Church College, Oxford, which has a rich history dating from 1546), the three singers have individually performed with many of the UK’s finest vocal ensembles, including The Gabrieli Consort, The Oxford Camerata, as well as emerging groups such as A Capella Portuguesa and The Brabant Ensemble.
