Wayne Mason is without doubt one of New Zealand's foremost boogie woogie piano players. Audiences are captivated by his frenzied hand movements as he produces a powerful piano performance. He is one of New Zealand's finest and most respected songwriters.

Wayne will be showcasing new songs as well as some favourites from a four decade journey as a singer/songwriter/musician with long time friend and stage mate Clinton Brown at the Belgian Bar, Rotorua, on Friday 28 August.

Well known as the writer of 'Nature', a song voted by APRA members as the number one song for the past 75 years in 2001, Mason brings to the stage many years of experience as a songwriter and musician.

Rotorua was Mason’s home town when he was seven and eight years old. “A great town at that age” says Mason, “well at any age I’m sure! ” Playing in venues like the Belgian Bar suits Mason who says it’s an ideal opportunity for a songwriter to engage with the audience. “You can’t help but get ‘close up and personal’ in these types of settings which is what we really enjoy – we can also share a few stories we’ve gathered over miles and miles of touring both here and overseas” says Mason.

The title track from Mason’s 2008 album “Sense Got Out” was voted one of the top twenty songs in the Apra Silver Scroll Awards last year. "Sense Got Out" was also a finalist in the prestigious US based International Songwriting Competition 2006, judged by some of the top musicians in the world.

“Wayne Mason’s album is full of hits waiting to be heard” (Nick Bollinger, Listener)

The album has received high praise with reviewer Marty Duda (Real Groove) saying "Sense Got Out - it ranks as one of the most emotionally honest songs I've heard all year".
