Recognised as a musical phenomenon, Pinchas Zukerman leads the world-renowned Zukerman Chamber Players. His genius and prodigious technique have long been a marvel to critics and audiences. Featuring Pinchas Zukerman (violin), Jessica Linnebach (violin), Jethro Marks (viola), Ashan Pillai (viola) and Amanda Forsyth (cello), the Zukerman Chamber Players were formed in 2002 and have performed around the world and recorded four CDs. Presented in association with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
The programme opens with the Duo for violin and cello by Kodály. Bartók described Kodály’s music as “the most perfect embodiment of the Hungarian spirit”, clearly evident in this awe-inspiring work. Expansive melodies and heartfelt expression characterise the Mendelssohn string quintet. The last work, densely textured and richly coloured, comes from the heart and mind of Brahms and brings the concert to a close with an energetic Hungarian czardas.
PROGRAMME
Kodaly: Duo for violin and cello Opus 7
Mendelssohn: Quintet in B flat Opus 87
Brahms: Quintet in G Opus 111
