Since their inception in 2008, Knights of the DUB Table’s powerful high-energy performances have left the crowds wanting more. Now bringing us their first recording as a prelude for their debut album release later this year, we get a taste of exactly what great things are to come from this Hamilton six-piece.
The self released four track EP showcases their mash up of musical styles, from dub to roots and into drum’n’bass. Presenting us with a snippet of their musical journey so far, it is apt that the EP begins with the first ever track written by the Knights, Sing It To Me. A deep and brooding dub tune, it sets a compelling scene for us with its strong vocals and resonant horn lines.
The second EP track entitled Small is an endearing roots number written from a child’s perspective and boasts an infectious chorus that will have us singing along for sure. Both Living Carefree and Come Down are genuine crowd pleasers, the former driven by an upbeat ska/hip hop rhythm, catchy horn line and solid bass. Closing off the EP with Come Down, we pay homage to the power of music through this rich dub/drum’n’bass track.
Knights of The DUB Table EP available from June 5th.
“Knights of the DUB Table have continued playing shows left, right and centre with some of New Zealand’s biggest reggae and dub acts… From the outside looking in it looks as though these guys are on the brink of something epic”. Mammoth 2009.
