The nkb Gallery in Auckland presents Industrial Poetry, a new exhibition of works by Paul Woodruffe which will open with a preview from 6pm August 20th and run until September 8th 2009.
Woodruffe has developed the images from his studies towards a Masters of landscape Architecture
The exhibited artworks concern the practice of fine art painting and drawing in relation to the revelation of qualities, and perceptions of a landscape. Conventional methods of site analysis often overlook the details and intricacies that Woodruffe celebrates in his work. The project is based in Centennial Park, Campbell’s Bay, where he identified specific areas of interest and importance, resulting in the exhibition images.
These paintings and drawings are about discovering the nature of ‘place’ through a creative curiosity, and an engagement in how and why a landscape works in relation to the human embodiment of walking in and through defined areas.
‘Industrial Poetry’ seemed a fitting title as Woodruffe seeks to dissolve the boundaries between art and analysis. As well as artworks, these images are tools and representational maps to further engage and assist in discovering the ideal’s of uniqueness, subtleties of the land and a sense of place.
