Timua Brennan (Te Arawa, Tuwharetoa and Ngai Tahu) has performed with the Auckland Philharmonia, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and the New
Zealand String Orchestra.
Timua was discovered in a local competition in Rotorua, which led her to pursue a tertiary education where she gained Masters of Music degree at Waikato University in 2004.
This led to a career as a Soloist Soprano and her own concert recital in Italy, where she toured for two weeks, with concert performances for the New Zealand Embassy in Rome, as well as performances in Sicily, Tuscany, and then to Hong Kong.
Timua has established herself not only as an operatic concert recitalist, entertainer and opera performer, but also as one of Maoridom's finest and most respected sopranos. Her ability to 'fuse' her operatic repertoire with Maori waiata led to her invitation to sing for HRH Prince Andrew in 2007, when he visited Rotorua. Her performance will include well loved arias and traditional works.
The concert will also feature talented local emerging musicians James Lawton (jazz saxophonist) and Maia Ratana (Violin). James and Maia will perform solo jazz and classical works from their university repertoire and other studies.
