Tony Joe White returns to our shores again this April with a new sound. Yes, it is the dirty, sweet guitar, deep vocals and drums we all know and love, but the Swamp Fox has added a keyboard player to his minimalist live approach. Extra texture, like alligators and bullfrogs. Get your dancing shoes on! But wait, there's more! Touring as Tony Joe’s special guest is legendary Australian guitarist, songwriter and performer, Ian Moss opening all shows in a solo, acoustic mode.
It is no secret Toy Joe White loves touring down under. He has been a regular visitor for since 1997, and is a hit for his older fans, and newcomers alike. This tour will see Tony Joe hit Auckland, Hamilton for the first time, Napier, who he hasn't visited for 12 years, and Wellington. Tony Joe White will be joined on stage by legendary stick man, Jeff Hale and the new addition of keyboardist, Tyson Rogers and is certain to play all the hits he is famous for, ‘Polk Salad Annie’, ‘Rainy Night In Georgia’, ‘Even Trolls Love Rock and Roll’, ‘Steamy Windows' . . . the list goes on forever.
White has most recently recast a number of his classic songs on Deep Cuts, definitively proving that time has no jurisdiction over funky. Tony Joe cut the tracks with a rich palette of beats and loops, utilizing both digital and live drums, strings, organs, and the unmistakable timbre of his guitar. White’s timeworn baritone is positively haunting, like a restless spirit conjured by the funk that was always the core of his music. Deep Cuts not only updates a cache of classic songs for a contemporary audience, it reframes them, revisiting his timeless imagery in a new, modern context. Deep Cuts will be available exclusively at all shows.
Ian Moss, six string extraordinaire, singer/songwriter and co-founding member of one of the greatest Australian rock bands in history, Cold Chisel. His reputation was carved from the blood, sweat and tears of his electric work but as fate would have it, “Mossy” changed his mind and slowed things down. He found the nerve to unplug and that’s bloody well our good fortune.
We can now savour the best of both worlds — cherish the fast, furious and sublime that is forever etched on our eardrums from days gone by and embrace the sweet calm after the storm of the here and now.
