Bank of America presents . . . The Bridge Project.

Produced by Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Old Vic, and Neal Street Productions

The Cherry Orchard
By Anton Chekhov
A new version of the play by Tom Stoppard

Produced in association with Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen, Singapore Repertory Theatre, THE EDGE, Teatro Español.

Starring Ethan Hawke, Rebecca Hall, Simon Russell Beale, Josh Hamilton, Sinead Cusack.

Sam Mendes directs a transatlantic company of actors in a double-bill of classic works for The Bridge Project’s inaugural 2009 season, which pairs a new adaptation of The Cherry Orchard by Tom Stoppard with The Winter’s Tale. A formidable transatlantic company and creative team will create these two new productions for six internationally renowned theatres. Simon Russell Beale leads the British/American cast, playing Lopakhin in The Cherry Orchard and Leontes in The Winter’s Tale. He is joined by Sinead Cusack as Madame Ranevskaya and Paulina, Richard Easton as Firs and Old Shepherd/Time, Rebecca Hall as Varya and Hermione, Josh Hamilton as Yasha and Polixenes, and Ethan Hawke as Trofimov and Autolycus.

The Bridge Project is a unique series of co-productions from Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), The Old Vic, and Neal Street Productions. Each year a single British/American company will perform a double-bill of classic works at BAM and at The Old Vic, and make several international visits. In year one, the company will travel to Auckland, Singapore, Madrid, and Recklinghausen.

The Bridge Project is presented by Bank of America and produced by Kevin Spacey for The Old Vic, Joseph V. Melillo and Karen Brooks Hopkins for BAM, and Sam Mendes and Caro Newling for Neal Street Productions. The project places the exchange of ideas, talent and creativity between London and New York at the heart of the process, and is borne out of Sam Mendes, Joseph V. Melillo and Kevin Spacey’s shared desire to produce large-scale, classical theatre for international audiences.

Rehearsals for The Cherry Orchard and The Winter’s Tale commenced in Brooklyn in October 2008. The plays will run at BAM from January–March 2009 then embark on an international tour from March–May, taking residencies in Singapore with the Singapore Repertory Theatre at the Esplanade-Theatres On The Bay, in Auckland at The EDGE Performing Arts Centre, in Madrid at Teatro Español, and in Germany at Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen before arriving for a season of both plays in rep at The Old Vic from May–August 2009.

The full company will be drawn from leading British and American actors, with further casting to be announced at a later time. The cast are appearing with the permission of American Equity and UK Equity. The producers gratefully acknowledge Actors’ Equity Association and UK Equity, incorporating the Variety Artistes’ Federation, for their assistance on this production.

A home is life, why we work, our heart, our soul.
A need, an expression,' home is where the heart is'
    Different ideas,different needs,
Its great to be home !!!

A home is not just a house. A home is where you feel comfortable, safe and surrounded by love and companionship. A home is not necessarily a show home - there can be dirt - that means the occupants have been outside and brought the joy of it inside; it should have the smell of baking; there should be noise, laughter, singing, music, even animals, and especially children.

Home is a haven, a retreat, a place that is...
Safe, welcoming, private with no expectations
    Where you can....
Boogie thru the house with the music blaring
Sing in the shower where the accoustics are great
Hang out in your PJ's from dawn till dusk
Potter in the garden, paint and create
Scream, Laugh, Rant and Rave, just being you....

That place we sealed in our hearts,a vision of joy and happiness,
A warmth that keeps the nightmare away, and shelters us in security .
A place of growing wonder and learning,A place that hold truth and lies,A place that you can call home!!!!

There's no way this could be a winning one... Anyone has his or her unique "home", actually it cannot be really defined nor compared. Not even the definitions of "home", it would not be fair. For some of us 'home' is something to do with a pet, for others 'home' is that place where you are accepted and adored for what you really are... For me "home" is that particular place/moment in space and time where I looked amazed at the sky and fell in love with the clouds for the first time. Since then I unwillingly 'measured' all the clouds in world with those I had seen hanging above my home town.

Home is feeling safe and comfortable within your surroundings. However it does not necessarily have to be the place you were born into or your first home. Its more a feeling than a particular place. I have recently moved to Otago from the north island and feel at home when with my new friends, it feels like i have known them for years, thus, i feel at home!

Home is not so much a place as it is a feeling.
You can feel at home around someone, at home in a house. Therefore, to me, home means being somewhere you feel safe, happy and loved.
A person can have many homes and not own a house! Homes cannot be bought, they are earnt

Home ... home on the range....
where the deer and the antelope play...

    huh? not even close

How about home is your family, your roots, your ancestors

yeah... more of a feeling than a place.

Home is where you are loved for who you are, regardless of your imperfections and failures. It is where people learn how to raise a family, live selflessly for other people, work hard for others and stay hopeful even if you go against the world.

It's all encompassed by the ideas of security, protection from the outside, safety & comfort. Also, simple things like planting a tree where you want to or decorating in your style.

Basically stamping your mark on a house & converting it into yours.

Home is where you are most comfortable. You are surrounded by objects that are as old as yourselves and have become part of your personality. Home is where you escape from the harsh world and the eyes that judge you. Your body is completely in tune with the wavelengths of home.

Home - where the kids know they can come back to when everything around them falls apart - where they'll find their old teddy and their favourite books - where they are accepted and loved. Always room for them and their friends, always something to eat in the fridge and the cake tins. But still they are expected to clean the dunny, empty the dishwasher, feed the cat or bring in the washing without being asked.

home is where everything changes when you are away for a long time but you can walk around on the streets and still feel like you are part of it.

If anyone says 'Where the heart is' I will spank them.

Home is... awesome... most of the time. Home is where I can watch Greys, and drink wine, where I also have to do the dishes and fed my cat. Home is not work, and that's nice. Home is not where Ethan Hawke is and hence why I need a new one in the centre of the Cherry Orchard.

    Love Kat
