Artist Bios
SIMON RUSSELL BEALE’s theater career began with plays at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh. For the National Theatre: Major Barbara, Much Ado About Nothing, Galileo, The Alchemist, Jumpers (also New York, where he was nominated for a 2004 Tony Award for Best Actor), Humble Boy, Hamlet (at BAM in 2001; 2000 Evening Standard Best Actor, Critics’ Circle Award for Best Shakespearean Performance and the Boston Critics’ Association Outstanding Actor in a Large Company), Battle Royal, Candide (2000 Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical), Summerfolk, Money, Othello (BAM, 1998), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, and Volpone (1996 Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor). For the RSC plays include The Tempest, King Lear, Ghosts, Richard III, Edward II, The Seagull, Troilus and Cressida, The Man of Mode and Restoration.
Other theater includes Monty Python’s Spamalot on Broadway; for the Donmar, The Philanthropist (2005 Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle Best Actor), Uncle Vanya and Twelfth Night (BAM, 2003; both winning him 2002 Evening Standard, Critics’ Circle and Olivier Awards for Best Actor and Drama Desk award nominations in the US. For Uncle Vanya: Village Voice Obie for Best Actor); Julius Caesar at the Barbican and on international tour. TV includes A Dance to the Music of Time (1997 Royal Television Society Best Actor and BAFTA Best Actor), Persuasion.
He is also the presenter of the series Sacred Music for the BBC. Simon Russell Beale is an associate of the National Theatre and an associate artist of the RSC.
In 2003 he was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his services to the Arts.
JOSH HAMILTON’s stage credits include The Coast of Utopia (Lincoln Center), Things We Want (New Group), Hurlyburly (Drama Desk and Lortel nominations, New Group), Proof (Broadway), The Waverly Gallery (Promenade), This is Our Youth (New Group), As Bees in Honey Drown, and Music From a Sparkling Planet (Drama Dept.), The Violet Hour (Steppenwolf), The Cider House Rules (Atlantic and Mark Taper), Sexual Perversity in Chicago (Atlantic), Gone Home (MTC), One Plus One (NYS&F), Suburbia (LTC), Sons and Fathers (Malaparte-cofounder), and Woman and Wallace (YPF).
TV and film include Outsourced, Broken English, Diggers, Alive, Kicking and Screaming, The F Word, Freak Talks About Sex, On Line, With Honors, House of Yes, The Proprietor, Abby My Love (Emmy Award), and Absolutely Fabulous.
