New Zealand hip hop legend Che Fu is squaring up to face the Vector Wellington Orchestra in a 'mock battle' for the ages.

The inaugural concert for the AMI Pop Star Series will feature Che Fu live in concert with the Vector Wellington Orchestra, September 13 2008 at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington. This will be the only New Zealand performance of this unique mix of musical cultures.

With the Vector Wellington Orchestra, Che Fu will further push the boundaries of the art of hip hop, combining his full live band, a DJ and the orchestra to reproduce some of Che Fu's greatest songs that have already left an indelible mark on New Zealand musical culture.

Che Fu needs hardly any introduction to music fans in New Zealand, from his early days with legendary funk band Supergroove to his seamless blend of Pacific-flavoured soul, funk and hip-hop in his successful solo career.

This performance is the first in a series of concerts designed by the Vector Wellington Orchestra and presented by AMI Insurance to expose new audiences to the power and grace of a full orchestra performing the finest modern music by some of New Zealand's finest musicians.

"Sitting Inside My Head" Che Fu will help the Wellington Orchestra never "Fade Away" and their combined "Misty Frequencies" will put the audience which I hope to be apart of in "Chains" giving ALL a VICTORY.("All Che Fu Songs")

Vector Wellington Orchestra will triumph over Che Fu as they have had plenty of practice especially when they played for the Baby Proms with children around yelling & jumping up & down. Government House has seen lots of concerts with the Vector Wellington Orchestra playing loudly outside with people sitting on rugs far away from the music. This is going to be a battle of violins, flutes, drums, French horns, bassoons and screaming fans.

There will be no losers! They will both perform equally well of course.

I think it would be a draw!!!
Che Fu will be as fantastic as ever but having the orchestra with all the extra instruments will add that extra depth. Will be an absolutely fantastic night!!!!!

What a matchup it will be....classical and classy vs a funky fusion...but who will come out on top? I'm with the clever Che-ness. His smooth cool rhythms mixed with the orchestras own medicine...what can I say? Now he's the man...

What a breathtaking battle it will be. NZ’s finest attacking each other weapons of melody, composition, lyrics and instruments. Each will have fatal moves that will woo the gathering. Who will overcome? Time will only tell but I’m picking the creator ‘Mr. Fu’ will have the edge.

I think the Wellington Orchestra will come out on top, even though I love modern day music there is something so powerful about a full orchestra performing together, the complexity of the melodies and the depth of the sound are hard to beat. Though I will have to admit, I do enjoy hearing classical musical techniques mixed with modern - it's truely showing how music is constantly evolving and no genre is ever out of date.

Che Fu will definitely take it out - hopefully he'll as lib with his quick thinking and slick lyrics. A must see.

It will be a close battle but Che Fu will come out on top... after all they are his songs!
