Four local artists explore the elements of fire, water, air and earth through photography, jewellery and sculpture.
'Earthly' offerings created by Ian longley, an established local sculptor and jeweller, demonstrate his expert and intricate crafting techniques. Longley's multiple stone and clay Earth series invite the viewer in close to inspect these three-dimensional artworks.
Also encouraging close attention are the Fire-inspired series designed by local jeweller
Laura Richards. Richards has a passion for anti-tradition. By using an unexpected combination of materials, her series of brooches and copper wall plaques communicate raw character with slightly sharp wit.
New to Nelson is artist Lane Collins, a photographer whose eye-catching images have earned her both the Supreme winner of the 2007 Nelson Regional Art Awards and the Silver Photographic Award in 2008. Large, atmospheric photographs alluding to dreams, visions, and clarity are Collins' expressions of Alchemy's Air element.
Well-known commercial photographer, Daniel Allen, has a style both inventive and upmarket. Cool inspiration comes from Water as a splash is captured in a microsecond.
The exhibition will be open every day from 10am to 5pm from Septemeber 23rd to October 21st in the Reflections Gallery at the World of Wearable Arts Museum.
