Supergroove Can’t Get Enough!

After a massive reformation tour last year, one of New Zealand’s most iconic acts hooks up with three solo stars for a show that’s set to go down as one of the all-time greats.

What do you get when you cross the pulse-thumping talents of Supergroove with the unique vocal stylings and songs of Scribe, Hollie Smith and Gin Wigmore? Well, if you happen to be in the salubrious surrounds of Auckland’s Civic Theatre on September 5, you’ll probably find you get, in the immortal words of a guy we told the idea to the other day, ‘on stage combinations that will completely blow your mind.’

Eccles Entertainment is proud to announce that the force that is Nick Atkinson, Ian Jones, Joe Lonie, Che Fu, Ben Sciascia, Karl Steven and Tim Stewart have decided that some things work just as well, if not better, second time round. Yep, after hitting the road with Crowded House last year and playing some massive shows in their own right since, with a little help from their friends the band is bringing you a one-night extravaganza; two sets of sonic power, known from this day forth as The Crosstown Revue.

Karl Steven, who has been given the unenviable task of speaking for all seven of the band’s members, is more than just a little bit pumped for the show which will feature a mixed-up salad of Supergroove Scribe, Hollie Smith and Gin hits blended and liberally dressed with vocal assistance at different times from the whole ensemble.

“It’s awesome to be playing the Civic. It’s an iconic Auckland venue and for us, as Auckland boys . . . we went to see Star Wars and Flash Gordon there for the first time. I remember thinking those lions with the glowing eyes were the grandest and most exotic things conceivable, and I still do!” says Karl.

It’s great fun for us to have the chance to play with a bunch of New Zealand’s most talented artists that we missed the chance to play with the first time round.” he says.

So what can people expect? Well, we don’t want to give the whole game up but all you need to do is ask yourself a few of these questions: What Supergroove song do you reckon Hollie Smith’s remarkable pipes would sound awesome on? And what iconic hit will Scribe bust out the mic during? And how will Gin sound with the full noise behind her?

So many questions. So little time.

And speaking of time, tickets to the Crosstown Revue go on sale Monday 28 July at The Edge and there is little doubt this will be a sellout.

It’s been a while since a gig has promised so much eccentricity and fusion of collusion. And if advance interest in the show is anything to go by, it’ll be unmatched for a long time after.

Gotta be female, gotta be someone with a melodic voice, gotta be someone with a vastly different style for contrast, ummm... Brooke Fraser? Could work.

i'm gonna go a bit left field and throw in a completely different genre: Hayley Westenra. i think her style maybe wouldn't be the best to suit the others but her voice could add an interesting tone into the mix :)
