The Jerusalem Quartet is one of the world's most dynamic, exciting and in-demand quartets. Their concert itinerary spans the globe, and in 2008 they return to New Zealand for a fourth tour.
The Jerusalem Quartet were last here in 2006. That same year they performed their acclaimed Shostakovich Cycle throughout Europe and in Canada. In 2007 they played their debut concerts at the Verbier and Valloires Festivals in France, and this year they will make their debut at the Bath International Mozart Festival. Following their visit here, they will tour Australia, where they continue as Musica Viva’s Quartet-in-Residence until 2009.
The quartet’s latest CD release was an all-Schubert disc featuring the ‘Death and the Maiden’ Quartet, coupled with the Quartettsatz. In his review in the Dominion Post, John Button said that he could think of "only a handful of other recordings as eloquent, and none as vividly recorded".
Kyril Zlotnikov plays Jacqueline du Pre's 'Sergio Perresson' cello, generously loaned by Daniel Barenboim.
"Since they formed in 1993, their career has been a triumphal ascent" (London’s The Daily Telegraph).
“They have a remarkable unanimity in ensemble . . . part of the excellence of this quartet is their ability to think as one, making for marvellously realised performances.” Capital Times (NZ)
“ . . . high technical demands were met with absolute assurance by these young players, their confident attack and nigh-on flawless ensemble playing, impressive throughout its substantial span.” The Guardian (UK)
