Katchafire is a New Zealand reggae band from Hamilton in the Waikato region.

Katchafire formed in 1997 as a Bob Marley tribute band and later began writing and performing their own songs. They have released three albums: Revival (2003) which featured the highest-selling NZ single of 2003, "Giddy Up"; Slow Burning (2005) and Say What You're Thinking (2007).

For the second album Slow Burning the band was augmented by horn section Le Sexion with Feal (saxophone), Mols (trumpet) and Thomas (trombone) from reggae band Mr Gang of France.

The band began recording their third album, Say What You're Thinking, as a seven-piece at Auckland's York Studios toward the end of 2006.

The band has toured Australia, the UK, Europe, the US and New Caledonia and has played at festivals with international acts such as The Wailers, Mr Gang, Horace Andy, Moonraisers and Gentleman.

Their name was inspired by the Bob Marley and The Wailers album Catch A Fire.

Che Fu and The Kratez
Che-Fu first made his mark as the frontman for Supergroove with their debut Traction which received triple platinum status. After a whirlwind world tour in 95-96 Che left Supergroove and teamed up with New Zealand producer D.L.T to produce his first solo album, 2Bpacific whose first single "Chains" was a top 40 hit in Australia.

Navigator, is a combination of 13 tracks developed musically and lyrically by Che-Fu's love of reggae, funk, soul, rap with a hip hop chewy centre.

"Fade Away" and "Random" the first two singles off Navigator are lush tunes inspired by the nature of friendship and loyalty each has to one another.

Navigator was made with The Kratez, DJ P-Money and The Villajah MC's. This is the nine-piece combo collected over the last three to seven years to form a formidable band with a spectacular live show.

In New Zealand, Che-Fu has achieved seven number one singles, three singles of the year, three male vocalist of the year, a platinum and triple platinum album and the 1999 Rising Entertainer award, number two album of the century behind Split Enz. The most top ten songs of any individual in New Zealand history.

Navigator entered the New Zealand Top 50 chart at Number 1 and stayed there for three consecutive weeks.

A formidable live Reggae/Funk/Hip Hop combination never seen together in Hawke's Bay adds a true laid back summer mix to our event season. If you have a ticket to Fat Freddy's be sure not to miss this a week earlier.

Thinking of listening to music on a nice warm night unfortunately makes me think of the tragic fires in Victoria. I hope NZ can do a little bit to help the poor victims.

I am thinking, its Waitangi day, the sun is out, the beach has people everwhere soaking up the summer , yet there are still people trying to cause grief for what occurred over 100 years ago. My advice is life is too short to sweat the little things, lets all just sink a cold one and get along.

What am I thinking?...I'm thinking that this is a prime opportunity to celebrate my husbands birthday with a surprise that would blow his mind! We are both huge Katchafire fans and I know this would make his year. We don't take time out to travel away much, and this would also be great excuse to disappear on a weekend of fun to a new place that we have never been to.

Since we live in a small rural town now, we don't get to go out to see bands of this calibre anymore unless we travel 2 hours or more. And since having our wee girl Maya, going out kinda takes a backseat.

We would both be soooo grateful if we won these tickets...so please pick us!!

What I'm thinking right now, other than "I wonder if what I write will win me the tickets" is....should I or shouldn't I give my friend the inappropriate slippers for her birthday tomorrow. Surrounded by her friends in a crowded restaurant during public holiday peak time - seems like a brilliant platform, doesn't it?

Oh, it's almost too boring to share but I'm thinking of taking a walk up our (long) driveway to get the mail (and there won't be any but I needed a break from the computer) then maybe lunch, then I have to deal with the cabbage plants I bought yesterday. I'd better stop thinking about it and do it!!

thinking ... at work ... I would never waste a brain cell that way :) Actually my mind did wander to the weekend. 5 blissful days (yes folk 5 DAYS!) of no work related activities. Paddling my kayak on a calm sea, chatting to my family that i see rarely and lying in the arms of my boyfriend for a lazy morning in - *sigh* - whay is not a 5 day weekend mandatory! perhaps i should run for parliment?

i am thinking about what i can do for my wonderful partner for valentines weekend. We love to lax back and listen to the smooth sounds of che fu and the krates, with a cold one..... and just talk endlessly. I think its the only time we get to talk to each other as work often gets in the way.? To win this prize would be the ultimate weekend for us. It will be an awesome valentines gift for a hardworking and wonderful man. Choice!

Im thinking about how I can get out of work on Saturday so I can go to Raggamuffin. I am thinking about how gutted I will be if I don't get to go. I am also thinking that if I don't go to work I won't earn money so that I can then take more time off work to go to Katchafire on the 20th...the mind boggles and only sheer determination will get me there...I got lotsa that!!!

Aaaahh.....I'm just kicking back in the sunshine, listening to my favourite Katchafire tunes on my ipod, and I've got my eyes closed, remembering back to days of Summer, laying in the grass after a swim at the beach, or by a creek up in the bush.....when all I had to worry about was what there was to drink and.....smoke (fish)......when I got home. Katchafire makes me think of the sheer happiness and bliss of growing up in the Waikato where all NZ's best treasures are a stones throw away...I'm honestly transported when I listen to these guys, and it's truly better than therapy when I'm stressed. I'm recently single and still heartbroken.....this concert would be an amazing way to free my spirit again! Much Aroha, Sarah
