The New Zealand debut of this outstanding troupe of male Spanish dancers and musicians is nothing short of a Festival coup. Audiences will be seduced by the magic of what happens on stage.
Hardly discernible in the semi-darkness, the black clad dancers of Camut Band slowly emerge on stage. Moments later everything suddenly explodes
in the most brilliant fireworks of breath-taking, ear-splitting, life-affirming dance and percussion.
Mixing a heady cocktail of tap, flamenco and African drumming, the group stomps on different sized drums and in scratchy sand, but also on the rulebook creating a whirlwind of dramatic energy, joyous spontaneity and sophisticated fun.
“The Camut Band revel in the Afro-Latin connection with a production which is elegant, powerful and sweatily sexy. An hour and a half flies by in a blur of feet and in the finale, I swear, the ground moves beneath their metal-shod boots. Fight for that ticket.” Sunday Herald (Uk)
“This beautifully choreographed and brilliantly staged meld of Spanish dance and African percussion climaxes with something I have rarely seen at the Festival, a roaring standing ovation.” Edinburgh Festival - The Independent (UK).
