Based in Devonport, I've been creating mainly furniture for several years since coming to live in New Zealand from Japan. In this, my first solo exhibition, I'm looking forward to showing my approach towards art, which is based on my passion towards craftsmanship.
Largely self-taught, I acquired woodworking skills primarily from books and magazines. My main influences are Hans Wegner, Le Corbusier and Japanese traditional architecture. Up until now, timber has been my first choice of material. However, I'm currently using wood with concrete to create a contrast in my pieces, and am excited to be presenting this side of my work as well as my furniture at the Depot.
Opening: 3.00 - 5.00pm Saturday 25 October.
The Depot Artspace is open Monday - Saturday 10.00am - 5.00pm and Sunday and Public Holidays 10.00am - 4.00pm.
