This gritty piece by award winning Irish Playwright Martin McDonagh deals with murder, suicide, heartbreak and alcoholism, while managing to stay sublimely comical throughout. Part of a trilogy including “Beauty Queen of Leenane” and “A Skull in Conemara”, “The Lonesome West” has been described as the masterpiece of the three.

In the tiny Irish backwater town of Leenane warring brothers Valene and Coleman live only to torment each other. They are closeted together in undying hostility like a penned-up Cain and Abel. Add to the mix a melancholy priest Father Welsh, with much fondness for the bottle, and a witty Irish tart with a heart called Girleen, and you have an explosive mix of boisterous antics and ironic humour showing the shocking and comical going-ons in the town of Leenane.
