The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO), the region’s leading orchestra, adds immeasurably to the city’s cultural richness.
The APO Guild is a charitable fund raising body for the orchestra and its latest exciting initiative is V.2 - Instruments of Art.
In a nutshell, 13 artists have each been given a violin which they will turn into a work of art. In the last two weeks in September, each piece will be displayed in respective dealer galleries and then these rare idiosyncratic pieces will be collectively displayed and auctioned at a cocktail party at the Maritime Museum on Friday October 3, 2008.
The entire proceeds will be donated to the APO as both the artists and dealer galleries have agreed to waive their commission.
To have a synergy between the artistic realms of music, art and sculpture is a very exciting prospect. The concept has been a long time in the making and the Guild is honoured and privileged to have artists of such high calibre donate their time and talent for this wonderful project.
