Music from the Baroque will resound within the walls of Glen Eden's Playhouse Theatre on Sunday 9 November. Conductor Brigid Ursula Bisley will lead Waitakere City's own orchestra, made up of local professional musicians, in a programme of music by composers such as J.S. Bach, Geminiani and Rameau. Special guest Donald Nicholls will play Stamitz’s melodious Clarinet Concerto, and Sarah Roper will perform Albinoni’s beautiful Oboe Concerto. Both soloists are New Zealand-born musicians who have recently returned home after studying, then teaching and performing overseas for a number of years.
Violinists Elena Abramova – who is also Waitakere City Orchestra’s concert master – and Christina Yu will shine in Geminiani’s Concerto Grosso “La Follia”, a delightful work with a theme and variations in the concerto grosso tradition, where one group of soloists “converses” with the larger group to create a myriad of instrumental textures.
The concert begins at 6.00pm and there are door sales - so come early to secure the best seat. Tickets are Adults $25, Concessions $15, Children $10, and Family (2 adults and 2 children) $60. You can also book tickets online through www.wco.co.nz.
Sponsored by the Waitakere/Portage Trusts and Waitakere City Council.
We look forward to welcoming you to hear Waitakere's best!
