QWU® - Queen of the Whole Universe – a very queer beauty pageant’ was first held at the SKYCITY Theatre, Auckland on Saturday 18 September 2004.
The musical parody on a beauty pageant moved to its larger new home in the ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre, THE EDGE®, Auckland the following year. Now in it's fifth exciting year, QWU® will spring into life this year on Saturday 15 November 2008.
To date the show has donated well over $100,000 to the three chosen charities; NZAF, Body Positive and Positive Women. This show has become a ‘must see event’ on the Auckland event calendar.
An exhibition performance of QWU was featured at Wellington’s Te Papa Museum’s 10th anniversary on Saturday 16 February 2008.
The basis of the event is a beauty pageant with a difference where most of the 50 cast are boys dressed as ‘girls’ representing countries and planets, all with one mission, to receive the coveted crown.
