As we postpone shuffling off this mortal coil, what else is shuffling on?
Fête - [feyt] (n.) a celebration. Macabre - [mə-käb'] (adj.) suggesting death.
On Saturday 8 November, the combined Wine Cellar and Whammy Bar will be transformed for the night, into a dark cocktail of all things macabre. With multiple acts across three rooms, and installations and exhibits in the connecting alleyways and smaller rooms, this will truly be a feast to satisfy even the most ravenous appetites for all things disturbingly beautiful.
Tales of the Dead, GHOSTLY MUSIC, Demonic BLOODY PUPPETRY, LIFE defying AERIAL MUSICAL, Gruesome REAL BLOOD Projections, INSTALLATIONS of mind-bending terror, Ghoulish ZOMBIE Dances, DEATH galore! and a living DEAD DOORMAN!
Performances will be from wide variety of mediums, with art, dance, music, aerial work, storytelling and more; and in addition to the main acts, there will be a collection of short surprises throughout the night. Also, there will be film screenings and listening rooms, for the appreciation of recorded works.
Music will vary from the creaking of ghostly sea shanties, to post-apocalyptic imaginings and the blackest of black metal. Dance will realm from the most hypnotic to the most horrifying, featuring Mary Macgregor-Reid, who’s captivating dancing, ranging from the exotic beauty of the middle east to the horrors of Hellraiser, is seen as rarely as once a year. Singers will soar overhead in an aerial musical. Corridors will be converted to dark alley ways, and Victorian side-shows. This will truly be a carnival to be remembered . . .
The term macabre most likely comes from the danse macabre of the middle ages, the allegorical representation of the idea that no matter ones station in life death unites us all - from beggars to kings, we will all, one day, join in the dance of death.
