The annual Central Otago Festival celebrates the flowering of the wild thyme in the surrounding hills with the focus on cherishing our environment.
The festival includes workshops where you can learn about things from gardening, worm farms, felting to making hypertufa pots, clay tiles and thyme baskets. There are guided walks to historic sites or natural habitats and a wine and tasting tour to Two Paddocks Winery.
Enjoy lunchtime concerts and the chance to watch a group of professional sculptors creating their works in Centennial Park (in the centre of Alexandra on the state highway) during the week.
Their pieces will be auctioned at a Grand Gala Evening on Saturday 22 November.
The following day's activities include a children's talent quest, a craft and variety market plus a Long Lunch which serves a three-course meal with Central Otago produce and wines in a large marquee.
