Hosted by John Hawkesby, The European Wine Experience will be laid out in stations relating to the countries and wine regions of Europe.

At each station, visitors can take a guided tour of the wines of that region, tasting them and learning to appreciate the region and its wines.

Each visitor will take away a European Wine Experience Guide, a 40-page book of comprehensive regional information and tasting notes.

Four separate bookable master classes also available on the day.

This event will be held in the Rangitoto Ballroom.

Wine is such a fine thing in life - nothing nicer than a nice glass of Sav Blanc at the end of a busy day with a nice meal.

Makes a great end to the day. Like a good back rub or a hot bath.

Wine, to me is the nectar of life. A fine chardonnay on a warm day, or an oaky merlot on a cold autumn afternoon.
    I can't get enough.

Wine is like a good lover whether it’s a rich full bodied red which has been left to mature this is better enjoyed on long winter nights while curled up in front of an open fire. Or a youthful and fruity white you take advantage of in those long summer days. It does not matter which one you prefer, maybe both but you will find that each one has its own personality pertaining to its origins and culture and with lots of experimenting you are bound to find one which you always go back to and want to carry on enjoying for the rest of your life, just like a good lover

Sounds like a wonderful event and well priced, just financially strapped this week :( It would be awesome to try the wines from Europe to compare them to NZ's delectable wine, as I am due to travel there next year.

The lovely thing about wine is that you can select a wine to suit an occasion, your mood at the time, to make an impression, to reward, to say I love you, say I thank you..
    The events are endless.

ive found that the red hangover is much more substantial than the white.....now if i was to break that down further...the stills hangover is a lot more duller than the sparkling one..and the other more notable was the stories got bigger on every glass no matter what color it was...

Wine is the nectar of the God's! There's nothing like a cold winter's night in the company of a full bodied Gamay Noir. Or, a warm summer's eve sipping on a cool, crisp Pinot Gris.

I travelled through Europe in my early 20's and appreciated the wine at the time... however maybe a little too much. I didn't take the time to savour, to compare and to learn about the wine as I wish I had done. Truly a tragedy when you consider the vast amounts consumed (albeit guzzled and gulped) through France and Italy in particular. Please give me the opportunity to rectify my ignorance

I can appreciate a good wine... work provides us with some of the finest wines in the country and I am in absolute heaven each time I try an exotic wine - I also love to travel so would love to taste the essence of more foreign wines - sadly I have never ever left this country and don't know if I will ever get a chance in my lifetime to have these experiences unless I win these tickets...
working mum of 2 young children on a sole income. I would really appreciate winning the tickets and hope that I may have a good chance to.

Well what can I say, I love wine... I use to be a staunch beer drinker but then I found a fine Portuguese lady who introduced me to the better things in life. We have been through out Portugal, Spain and France and I have tried to convince her that New Zealand and Aussie wines are just as good. (Not doing to well).
She cant get over our screw top wine.
So please help this helpless case. She is also missing her wine from Portugal.
    Thank you

I am sooo going to this event. Wine for me is much more than just a drink, it is a compression and distillation of all the elements and emotions that have gone into its making. I love to try and sense the hillside the grapes were grown on, the look of the buildings nearby, what the winemaker was thinking when they made it, what is the history of the vineyard? I don't care that some people call me a bit snobby or make fun of me going on about it, to KNOW where the grapes were grown or where the wine was made, or to meet the wine maker improves the flavour! Joining the right wine with the right circumstances or experiences enhances both things, remember that buttery Chardonnay you drank at the vineyard in Napier, or the earthy Malbec you tried at the vineyard in Australia, or the first time you tried a Sangiovese. Wine is so much more than a drink, it is a bottled experience, bottled memories, bottled emotions.
