Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace New Zealand Tour 2008.

Having cemented their place as "the last great American rock band" (The Independent) with a recent sold out UK/Europe arena tour in support of the #1 Australia/New Zealand charting Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, the Foo Fighters have confirmed a spring 2008 return to Australia and New Zealand.

The last time the Foo Fighters were in Australia they wowed a select number of fans with their brilliant acoustic shows at Sydney Opera House, showcasing the intimate interpretations of their catalogue documented on the live Skin & Bones album.

This time, however, the Foo Fighters will be bringing their hugest ever production to arenas in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Auckland April 21--May 5 2008.

The already platinum Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace is the Foo Fighters at the top of their game. The band's sixth studio album has been regaled by the press worldwide, with NME describing it as "a near-seamless amalgam of the Foos' musical yin and yang... the record the Foo Fighters have always threatened to make”, the New York Times proclaiming "there's a lot of craft here to admire" and Entertainment Weekly labeling ESP&G "Perfect... a modern-day CD that reverberates with the conviction and artistry of bygone days" -- while The Guardian looked toward the live show, announcing "The Foos' sixth and most accomplished album sees the band comfortable with arena tricks such as wistful Led Zeppelin-y acoustic guitars and choruses to learn and scream."

Foo Fighters' 12 years plus experience of headlining stadiums and festivals the world over has molded them into possibly the most consistent arena rock juggernaut of the new millennium.

Whether headlining their own show for 85,000 fans in London's Hyde Park, stealing the show at Live Earth, or playing the odd surprise show at an intimate venue, Foo Fighters deliver at each and every show, never sending a single fan home anything less than 100% satisfied -- as the reviews for 2005's In Your Honour tour testified, with The Australian opining "in an age of rock 'n' roll pretenders, seeing the real thing is resolutely life affirming. Just the way Foo Fighters like it," while the Daily Telegraph anointed Dave Grohl the "Knight of alternative rock," and The Age reiterated that statement, proclaiming him "rock royalty" and Blunt Magazine praised the versatility of the show: "They melted the girls' hearts with sweet melodies and got the boys' blood pumping with emotion-drenched anthems."

The first concert sold out within an hour, and tickets for the 2nd are going fast. Scalping has been an issue since tickets were invented, and it's a hot issue globally - this from the NZHerald:

"LONDON - Music management groups representing some of the world's biggest acts are seeking a share of the proceeds from concert tickets re-sold over the internet on websites like eBay, Viagogo and Seat Exchange.

But they are likely to face stiff resistance from the sites, one of which has argued that such a levy would effectively mean paying an artist twice for the same ticket.

In New Zealand, there was a backlash earlier this year over tickets to sporting events being resold on TradeMe."

My guess is this issue will be as important as music downloads were over previous years. Ticketmaster had a go at introducing an auction process for premium seats to The Police concert to move the scalpers premium to the ticketing agency, promoter and artists.

Its a tricky issue, and we'd like to hear people's opinions on the issue, particularly from fans of Foo Fighters. Would you pay a premium for tickets in an auction from the ticketing agency, or do you think "the market should decide" on public auction sites?
