It may perhaps be part of Michele Leggott’s predicament that a lessening of sight has seen her reach out into the netsphere to connect with potentially enormous audiences for contemporary poetry. Talking in terms of young people being net natives, she has gone out of her way to contemporarise an art form which could only too easily have dwindled down to a microphone in a spotlight in an empty room.
Triumphantly named the inaugural New Zealand Poet Laureate 2007-2008 in December last year, we warmly welcome Michele to the Auckland Writers & Readers Festival.
