Resonances / NZSO

Resonances is a programme full of rich parallels and allusions to other Festival events and creators. It introduces violinist and former child prodigy Chloë Hanslip to New Zealand audiences, and showcases leading American composer John Adams, including his new work Doctor Atomic Symphony, which premiered at the 2007 BBC Proms.

Chloë Hanslip performs the reflective and romantic chaconne from John Corigliano's Oscar-winning soundtrack to the film The Red Violin, directed by François Girard, who also created the Weill double bill. (see The Lindbergh Flight / The Flight Over the Ocean and The Seven Deadly Sins

The Pulitzer Prize-winner John Adams is one of America's most respected composers and one of the few to receive a "triple crown" at the Grammys. Like Borrowed Light by Tero Saarinen, Shaker Loops is partly inspired by the religious group. Described as "powerfully eloquent" (The Independent), Doctor Atomic Symphony explores one of the most monumental events in recent history - the birth of the atomic age.
