Tom Jones will headline the Mission Estate Concert for 2008 with Jimmy Barnes as the opening performer.

The Mission Estate Concert is magic because it is many things to so many people. It has an initial slightly formal picnic feel to it, but as the excitement builds it becomes a more casual outing ... perfect for laughter, meeting up with friends, good wine and song of course. It encourages many thousands of people, perched across the hillsides like brightly coloured and exuberant resting mountaineers, to shake off the rigours of life outside the grassed and lined walls of the amphitheatre, to have a good time. It is a party with lots of guests and the very best of entertainment.

A musical diversity, as illustrated by a look at the acts over the years since Kiri Te Kanawa took the main stage for the inaugural concert in 1993. Dionne Warwick, Ray Charles, Kenny Rodgers, Shirley Bassey, Julio Iglesias, The Beach Boys, The Doobie Brothers, The Hollies and Lulu, Engelbert Humperdinck, Sir Cliff Richard, John Farnham, B52s, and Rod Stewart. Each memorable in their own way.

The Mission Estate Concerts have set standards for diversity, colour and exuberance. This is a unique event which has captured not only Hawke's Bay hearts but also the hearts of the country. People come from all points of the compass and the sentiments are the same.

It's a bit of a long haul to go down to Mission Estate,
to drive down there from Ak takes about 7hours or 8,
but coz they’re only showin one concert for Kiwi’s

Tom Jones is fantastic. I have always enjoyed listening to him and the song "It's not unusual" is my favourite which I sing on karaoke.

But I when see it selling out now to everyone.
