His name is synonymous with funky music, his pedigree impeccable; his band: the tightest little funk orchestra on earth. It is almost impossible to separate which came first, Maceo or the funk. The legendary P-funk Parker has played his alto horn with each and every leader of funk such as James Brown, George Clinton and William ‘Bootsy’ Collins. Maceo grew to become the lynch-pin of the James Brown enclave for the best part of two decades. His signature style helped define Browns brand of funk, and the phrase: "Maceo, I want you to Blow!"
His collaborations over the years, performing and recording, have included Ray Charles, Ani Difranco, James Taylor, De La Soul, Dave Matthews Band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and more recently he toured with Prince on his Musicology Tour. A highlight for the festival, Maceo Parker’s playing will leave you transfixed, wanting to groove and begging for more.
