RDU98.5FM Presents a Sunday Afternoon Outdoors with

The Black Seeds : Solaa : The Checks : Dubwize : Disasteradio : Charlie Ash : Bang!Bang!Eche!

We have 4 single tickets to Cheap as Chips for our Eventfinder friends. Simply tell us why you are cheap and the most creative cheapness will win tickets to this wonderful outdoor event. Admit your cheapness in the Comments section below to be in to win. The show is only a few days away, so get cheap soon!

Every year, thousands flock to experience the summer bash that sees this country’s TOP
performers get down for a flavour-filled Sunday afternoon in the sun. This is Christchurch’s
biggest annual contemporary music event, and as always, we are bringing entertainers
from the forefront of the NZ music scene together, for a Sunday afternoon in the sun, where
you’re guaranteed to get the most band for your buck.

The performers:
The Black Seeds are New Zealand’s mainstay of good time summer music. If you don’t have
one of their Gold or Platinum selling releases, try the house next door and you’re bound to find a
happy camper, whose tent is pitched by The Black Seeds’ awesome blend of Funk, Jazz, Reggae
and Dub. This institution of the kiwi summer are set to appear at the most friendly ticket-price
ever for Cheap as Chips 2008.

The Checks are remarkably young but they sure have impact. Already, this rock and roll
conglomerate have supported REM, performed on the NME New Music Tour and have
perfected their incredible live performance of spit n’ sawdust Rock n’ Roll, sending audiences
worldwide into frenzied enjoyment. Start practicing your flailing.

All Christchurch natives know that Solaa have been representing at the Funk Olympics for
more than a decade and that they have consistently set the benchmark for gold live
performances. These guys practically channel the sun and serve it up in one big blazing set every
time they take the stage. Have you bought your ticket yet?

Charlie Ash will appeal to all of your senses with their striking Electro-Pop-Punk sound, and
their stunning Pop-Electro-Punk getup. While Mailee Matthews (of Fly My Pretties fame) holds
down the bassline, prepare yourself for the arresting vocal offerings of Rosie Riggar. And hold
onto your socks.

Snypa Levi and DJ Messanjah together bring Dubwize back to Cheap as Chips in 08 for a
second showing of their excellent Reggae-Dub stylings. You’ll be treated to new material this
time round, destined for release on their forthcoming album. See it in March and say you heard
it first.

Disasteradio in disastereo! This one-man wall of ‘80s-inspired synth-pop is kooky, clever and
essential course material if you want to know who is on the cutting edge of the NZ music scene.

The winners of RDU98.5FM’s 2007 Dux de Lux RounDUp band competition,
Bang!Bang!Eche! are here, and you’d better sit up and listen. These fledglings of the
Christchurch music scene are deceptively cute, but surprisingly punchy and they bring to the
stage all the fervor one would expect from a group with a name like theirs.

And don’t forget the fine RDU DJ Talent…it wouldn’t be Cheap as Chips without this lot, and
we all know that providing substantial refreshment at parties is all part of the good host manual.
The lovely RDU DJs will appear throughout the afternoon with their inter-set morsels to keep
the afternoon flowing smoothly. The whole shebang will be presented by the almighty MC
Sticky Fingaz – this guy is the cake AND the icing.

More than cheap - everybody saves money with me!

My girlfriend(20): Hugs & kisses are free
My ex-wife(33): I don't sue her for money
My parents: At 21 I pay for my own rent and food
My health care: Doctors don't exist in my life - I exercise & eat healthy food
    My government: I am "benefit-free"
My neigbours: I take their dogs for a walk for free
My colegues: They get free stand-up comedy from me on a daily basis
My ACC Insurance: I live an accident-free life
My friends: I take home-made food and home-brew to their parties
My boss: I'm attracting a lot of business into the company
My sister: I'm her counsellor & therapist
My uncle: I persuaded him to stop gambling and do gardening instead

    I'm proud to be cheap!

I am a new student struggling with the newfound hardship of budgeting......I had to quit my full time job last week to start full time uni and am having trouble finding a new job that fits around my study and band practice. This is why I'm now cheap, because i have no other choice. By winning 1 of ur tickets, it will be an inspiration to me and when i am playing at cheap as chips in the near future i will gladly return the favour. Thank you

Hi, well i'm a newly 34yr old single Mum of 3 gorgeous girls (of course i would say that)....and in my cheapness, unfortunately i have to rely on my folks to help me out financially to support them. I work part time too, but sadly that just doesnt cover the bills these days :~(
However I love my life and those who share it with me. I Live Love and Laugh every day.
And when I get the chance I love to move n groove to great soundz all night long.

As an impoverished student (full time), and a starving artist (part time) I'd have to hitch hike up the coast with my sleeping back and knapsack just to get to CHCH.

Once I finally made it there, I could glom a spot ont he floor of an old family friend, who would most likely feed my tea and pikelets and subject me to page after page of old family photos from the album.

I'd love to do it in style, fly up from Dunners, and stay in a posh motel to attend this gig. But alas! Lectures just began and I am full on trying to find ways to get creative with a food budget of less than $20 per week.

Having said that, attending this music fest would wipe out my grocery money for over a week. I'm Cheap As.... but I love good music =)
