Having announced their return to Australia for headline appearances at V Festival 2008, The Smashing Pumpkins will also headline 3 arena shows in New Zealand, in Wellington (20 March), Auckland (22 March) and Christchurch (24 March).

Joining the Pumpkins as very special guests QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE.

As the record shows, the Smashing Pumpkins have created one of the most acclaimed bodies of work in rock music history. Formed in Chicago in 1988, they released Gish, their influential and platinum selling debut, in 1991, followed by further multi-platinum albums that include Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness & Siamese Dream.

The pivotal group’s many hits include ‘Disarm’, ‘Today’, ‘1979’, ‘Tonight Tonight’ and ‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings’ – songs that defined the alternative music era and continue to resonate on modern rock radio.

In 2007 Smashing Pumpkins released ZEITGEIST, the sixth Smashing Pumpkins album and first since 2000. A heartfelt, ambitious and deeply felt piece of work, the new album vividly recaptures the spirit of this great and influential rock band.

Debuting #1 in New Zealand, Top 10 in Australia (#8), and #2 in the US, Zeitgeist is quite clearly the sound of a rock group that has emphatically renewed and revived and is now ready to embrace and further it’s musical legacy.

The Smashing Pumpkins undertook an extensive worldwide tour throughout 2007 to introduce fans to the live experience of Zeitgeist and reacquaint them with why this band are held in such high regard as a live force.

Having lit up stages across Europe and the US on the Zietgeist tour, fans and critics alike are raving at the reformation:

On the road, main singer-songwriter and guitarist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin - with Jeff Schroeder (guitar), Ginger Reyes (bass) and Lisa Harriton (keyboards) - have been performing wide-ranging sets with an “enveloping epic force,” as Richard Cromelin noted in the Los Angeles Times, July 17, 2007.

Writing in the News and Record (Greensboro, NC), Parke Puterbaugh noted: "Their noisy intensity, abetted by a stunning light show, made for an evening with some deliriously captivating peaks...The second half of the concert was the best hour of rock music I've witnessed all year, and among the most memorable ever” November 10, 2007.

“The Smashing Pumpkins were bold and beautiful. Corgan, specifically, is at peak powers thanks to a renewed love affair with the electric guitar. A pulverizing one-two punch of “United States” and “Bullet with Butterfly Wings’’ opened the show. Corgan sang, “The end draws nigh” and “Revolution!” during “United States,” a standout selection from comeback album “Zeitgeist.” David Lindquist, THE INDIANAPOLIS STAR, October 7, 2007

"There was Billy Corgan...shooting sparks from his guitar and snarling and crooning...Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin proved still adept at anchoring a groove with both thunder and delicacy. Sarah Rodman, BOSTON GLOBE, September 15, 2007

“…as powerful as ever.” Zach Lau, PITTSBURGH POST GAZETTE, October 11, 2007
