Green Fire Islands presents a dynamic and cutting edge musical dialogue between two island nations, oceans apart but sharing a deep, spirited musicality.

On tour in New Zealand led by Dónal Lunny, referred to by U2's frontman Bono as "the sound man", this unique collaboration comes together to weave Celtic and Maori music into a show at the Aotea Centre on St Patricks Day, March 17.

Bouzouki, uilleann pipes, the fiddle and sean nos singing meet and meld with waiata, taonga puoro and kapa haka.

Lunny has assembled the leading lights of the contemporary and traditional musical circles from Ireland and Aotearoa featuring NZ's vocalist Whirimako Black, Taongo Puoro master Richard Nunns joined by Horomona Horo, percussionist Riki Gooch (founding member of Trinity Roots) and multiple award winning Glenn Colquhoun, voted ‘The Peoples Poet’ in the Montana Awards. From Ireland joining Lunny is fiddler Nollaig Casey, singer Iarla O' Lionaird, harpist Laoise Kelly, guitarist Steve Cooney, Uilleann piper Sean McKeon, Irish poet Cathal O Searcaigh and on the keyboards Graham Henderson.

I saw this in Wellington this week and it was FANTASTIC!! Most of the show was unexpected and beautifully thought out with creative ideas bringing more to the event, making it greater than just two musical cultures combining. The waiata and taonga puoro leading into trad Irish was heart-racingly exciting!
