The 2008 Cuisine NZ Champions of Cheese Awards goes public again with CheeseFest '08, an exciting event held at the SKYCITY Convention Centre from 5 - 8pm on Wednesday March 5th 2008.

For a modest fee of $35, CheeseFest attendees will be able to sample over 400 of NZs finest specialty cheeses in the 2008 Cuisine NZ Champions of Cheese Awards accompanied by a complimentary glass of wine and glass of Taylor's Port.

We have two pairs of tickets to this prestigious food event for our Eventfinder friends. To be in to win, please share with us a little poem telling us how you feel about cheese. It's near to our heart and, surely, near to yours as well. Just drop your verse into the Comments section below and we'll pick the two most creative poets to attend with their favourite cheese-eating friend.

Cuisine food editor Lauraine Jacobs says that "with hundreds of speciality cheeses from all over New Zealand, CheeseFest will be the ultimate taste experience. People can sample the smallest artisan products to the best export grade cheddars - the biggest collection of New Zealand cheeses ever assembled in one room".

Individual stations will feature the ever popular cheddars, blue cheeses, bries, Dutch style cheeses, goats and sheep milk cheeses, washed rind cheeses and of course the award-winning cheeses from the 2008 Cuisine NZ Champions of Cheese Awards announced the previous evening.

For the first time, the cheeses will also be on sale for people to take home and enjoy. Members of the New Zealand Specialist Cheese Makers Association will be on hand to introduce and answer any questions the public may have about their cheeses.

A cash bar is available to purchase other wines to match with cheeses. Non-alcoholic beverages are also available.

    She asks me why
    I'm just a cheesy guy
    I'm cheesy noon and night
    Cheese is such delight
    I'm cheesy high and low
    Don't ask me why
    Cos I don't know
If there’s a lack of bread
Eat it with a cracker instead
    Darling

    Gimme wine with cheese
    Hard beautiful cheese
    Crumbly, oozing,
    Salty, holey, waxen

Give me it up to here cheese
    With ham on a baguette
    Here baby, there mama
    Everywhere daddy daddy

Cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese
    Heat it, can’t beat it
Long as I can eat it
    My cheese

    Start Them Young:

    Cheese if you please,
My 10 month old is excited by the taste
    Cheese if you please,
    She can hardly wait.

    The home of the cheese,
It is the big tall box in the kitchen called the fridge,
    Cheese if you please Mummy,
    My favourite,
    I LOVE CHEESE

    Chunky Crumbly Holy or Mouldy
Spread it, Slice it, Grate it, Mold it
Smell it, Taste it, Feel it, Fold it
Is there nothing more interesting as
    Delictably Appealing blue Vein
    Divinely Acceptable as Colby
    Deliciously Crumbly as Tasty
Smooth and Subtle as camebert or brie

Dust off your platters, roll out your knives

Cheese is on the menu tonight!!!!!

Cheese is the bees knees. You ask me how, then ask the cow.
First, the clover, then the rye, is turned to milk in true style.

The cow eats the grass, the grass turns to milky cream
Then with the aid of some help – it turns into a cheesy dream.

The curds and whey are made from hay. Ask the secret you possibly may
But every one has a recipe to keep and then of course there is cheese from sheep.

There’s goat and horse and deer no doubt too but for my sense of taste the cow will do.
From camembert to cottage cheese, just give me cheese, lots of cheese, please, please, please.

    Imagine a world without cheese.
No one would feel at ease,
Get out your havarti and feta
    And the party is better
The crowds all shout more please!
