Carlos Santana will stop for one night in New Zealand on his Ultimate Santana album tour, playing at Auckland's Vector Arena.

The Grammy-award winning Mexican born artist was last on these shores in 2003, when he played two shows in Auckland and New Plymouth.

He shot to stardom in the late 60's and early 70's with the Santana Blues Band, which created a highly successful blend of salsa, rock, blues, and jazz fusion. Two decades later Santana experienced a "sudden resurgence of popularity and critical acclaim" in the late 90's.

Santana has sold over 90 million records worldwide and has over 70 music and recording industry awards to his name.

If I were to sum up the concert in one word, it would have to be.... "MAGIC".... !!!

I wasnt a huge fan of Santana, but after being offered a free ticket that morning and going I think they're fantastic! The way they play they're instruments was phenomanal, I definitly enjoyed the show.

The Santana concert last night was awesome. That man is a legend! We got there a little before he started and the show was outstanding. Santana brought a 10 piece band with him - keyboards, 3 drummers, a trombone and trumpet, bass and rhythm guitars, and 2 backup vocalists who could hold their own with no trouble at all. They all had a chance to show what they could do with their own solo pieces, including an incredible performance by Dennis Chambers on drums that earned him a standing ovation from the entire near sellout crowd at Vector Arena. My first time at the venue and I know it's been slated for sound quality, but my impressions were all good. A really professional show with great production quality, and Carlos Santana is definitely still "the man".

Is vector arena the old Carlaw Park? I saw Santana play there back in the mid 70's with SkyHooks supporting. funny ho wevery show has a story, I was a bit phased by the delays and the obvious anger of Carlos at the technical delays to his changeover, he prepares carefully and his planned timing to play was messed up. Anyway I wandered around and met up with Corben Simpson and we all left to sit in the domain under the trees and hear the solos from afar. Skyhooks had us all laughing in hysterics and we simply couldnt get back to meditative states that easily. Skyhooks was a free bonus to us, as their bass player got sick, they rehearsed a kiwi bass player, and played a week late. I remember the mushroom on stage exploding everywhere!!!! We used to travel up from Hamilton to see all the internationals back then..
