The Splendour of Beethoven Series will see the APO perform three concerts over three consecutive weeks in celebration of the master composer in all his romantic glory, illuminating exactly why his name will forever be revered and beloved.
Wolfram Christ - conductor
Bernd Glemser - piano
Programme
Egmont Overture
Piano Concerto No. 3
Symphony No. 7
Beethoven’s third piano concerto was a work which transformed the genre, making the piano as much an adversary of the orchestra as a solo instrument. The romantic concerto began here, and it remains a wonderful and enigmatic work, played here by one of today’s outstanding pianists Bernd Glemser. Beethoven’s seventh symphony is one of his most joyous and lyrical – a resounding celebration of a magnificent composer at the peak of his creative powers.
Free pre-concert talk 7pm in stalls.
Note: Bernd Glemser will also perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 (Emperor) at the Splendour of Beethoven 2 on July 3.
